Robert Malzcyk
Co-Founder of Timber Engineering Inc., Robert belongs to a rare breed of university-trained specialized timber engineers. He is a world-renown expert in structural timber engineering with experience in developing new business ventures.Co-founded Equilibrium Consulting Inc., 1997-2018, and mass timber Director of Katerra, 2018-2021, Robert has worked on over 600 projects throughout his career.Robert is committed to sustainability and energy performance and was involved in the design of the first “Passivhaus” projects in Canada. He is a long-standing member of the O86 “Engineering Design in Wood” code committee, and a member of the recently formed CLT code committee.Robert is a devoted tennis and volleyball player, and a good skier. He likes outdoor adventures like kayaking and swimming in lakes.
Marta Maj
Co-Founder of Timber Engineering Inc., Marta has over twenty years of experience designing complex structures, with special expertise in timber commercial, institutional, and residential construction.Marta is well known for her dedication to all her projects and strong communication skills with clients and project teams. Always on time with the highest quality. Marta is a proud mother of a nine-year-old daughter and son - a recently graduated engineer. Her big passion is gardening. However, she never has sufficient time for this due to her second passion - engineering.
Hercend Mpidi Bita
Hercend is an expert in timber engineering and connection detailing for mass timber buildings, including the performance under seismic loads and disproportionate collapse prevention designs.He led the design of numerous mass timber industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential projects in both Canada and US.Hercend has numerous publications in international journals, book chapters, and structural reports on novel structural design and detailing for mass timber under abnormal and extreme loadings.Hercend is a die-hard Manchester United fan. If he is not at work, he should certainly be at the nearest park playing soccer. He also enjoys Vancouver’s outdoor activities.
Andrzej Winkler
Andrzej brings international design experience and in-depth understanding of expressive structural systems. He studied structural engineering and architecture in Poland, England and Italy and spent last 15 years designing buildings in Europe, Asia and North America.Throughout his career Andrzej focused on architecturally orientated projects, developing vivid and efficient structural systems in a close dialog with planning partners, including stadium roofs, transit station canopies, footbridges, recreation centers, temples and fabric canopies. Andrzej is a lucky husband and father of 2 rising stars of Edmonton hockey and soccer scene. He joins old affection to European and Polish football teams with a new one for the local Oilers. Curious about the world, he loves historical-political discussions, best over beers, wine or schnapps.
Aurea Moreno
Aurea Moreno is a skilled BIM/CAD Manager with expertise in Revit and CAD, specializing in Building Information Modeling (BIM) to optimize workflows and enhance collaboration. She is dedicated to creating precise, visually appealing drawings across various sectors, including First Nations projects, residential, institutional, and recreational design.Having worked alongside Robert and Marta for 10 years, Aurea plays a key role in supporting the organization’s growth.Aurea’s attention to detail and commitment to quality ensures that her drawings effectively translate complex design ideas into clear, actionable plans, helping projects progress efficiently from start to finish.
