This 118-unit social housing project in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside/Oppenheimer community offers a range of unit types, including 27% family-sized units, supported by shared amenities that foster connection and resilience. The mixed-use building also includes a not-for-profit cultural space, small-scale commercial units, and educational programming—reflecting a deep commitment to community and place.
Constructed primarily from mass timber, the project was awarded funding through the Province of BC’s Mass Timber Demonstration Program. The structural system supports a modular, low-carbon approach to housing that is scalable, sustainable, and cost-effective.
As structural engineers, we worked to integrate efficient mass timber solutions that align with the project's social and environmental goals, helping deliver a durable, community-oriented building that contributes meaningfully to the future of the neighborhood.
